At least 31 voters were sent home to self-isolate on election day after showing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) related symptoms, a health official said Tuesday.

In an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the 31 individuals were assessed by the doctors assigned in various polling precincts nationwide and were referred to local health centers for further evaluation and management.

“Meron po tayong listahan sa mga pasiyenteng ito, but at the end of the day, ‘yung totality po nitong lahat wala naman po tayong nakita na may severe, for example, na mga sintomas na nagpunta doon (We have a list of these patients, but at the end of the day, in totality, we have not seen severe symptoms, for example, among the voters),” she said.

Data from the Department of Health showed medical teams stationed at the polling sites were able to manage and treat 644 cases, of which about 57 individuals were sent to hospitals.

“Marami po sa mga kababayan na dinala diyan ay may pagtaas ng presyon, maaaring dulot ng init at maaaring dulot marami kaseng tao kaya medyo nagkaroon sila ng mga ganitong sintomas (Most of the cases had an increase in their blood pressure level may be due to the hot weather and large crowds),” Vergeire said.

She added those who were sent to hospitals had injuries like deep wounds.
