Cases have been filed against a dozen individuals arrested for violating the gun ban in Surigao del Norte on the eve of the May 9 polls, the Police Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-13) reported Wednesday.

Cases for violations of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Commission on Election Resolution No. 10728 on Gun Ban were filed Tuesday against the suspects, according to PRO-13 director, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr.

In a statement, Caramat identified the suspects as Bryan Canibel Sala of P-5, Binocaran, Malimono, Surigao del Norte; Kieth Acelo Non of Alfonso, Tagaytay, Cavite; Michael Angelo Talosig Andres of Barangay 3, Aluminus Laguna; Falcon Eral Sinaca of San Isidro, Malimono, Surigao del Norte; Lino Sales Obre of Muzon, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; and Ernesto Adloan Balopeños of Poblacion, Brooks Point, Palawan.

Also facing charges are Julius Dalman Cabonce of Purok Sta Cruz, Duhinob, Dipolog City; Ricky Zabalero Banlas of Magtangale, Balingoan, Misamis Oriental; Adulla Malic Sahalain of Lustre-Sta Catalina, Zamboanga City; Edgar Alba Diaz of San Vicente 1, Bislig City; Avenir Adelantar Lim of Lower Calarian, Zamboanga City; and Junypeth Baroca Sumili of Purok Caimito, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Eight of the 12 suspects were arrested on May 8 in Barangay Binocaran, Malimono, while the other four were nabbed at a checkpoint in Barangay Ipil of the same town.

Seized from the suspects were three M4 rifles, five .45-caliber pistols, a 9mm pistol, and ammunition.

“The Caraga police has relentlessly intensified operations against loose firearms and tightened the implementation of the Comelec gun ban,” Caramat said.

The operations, he added, had effectively foiled plans to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the polls in the region.

“If any similar case arises, the public is encouraged to report and coordinate with the nearest police station,” Caramat said.
