Over 3,000 teachers and non-teaching staff of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Antique will render service during the May 9 national and local elections (NLE).
Evelyn Remo, DepEd Division of Antique School Governance and Operations chief, said in an interview Thursday there will be 3,020 teachers and 562 non-teaching staff who will be on poll duties as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) and support staff.
“Teachers are also now in the process of preparing their classrooms that will be used as polling precincts,” she said.
Desk arrangements are checked to make sure safe physical distancing is observed, installation of plastic barrier on the table of BEIs, and putting in place other safety protocols are some of the room preparations being carried out.
Remo added that while they have been oriented of their responsibilities, DepEd division has a ready task force that will monitor the teachers in case there will be issues and concerns that may arise.
The task force will be headed by Remo together with DepEd lawyer Elizabeth Felasol and other concerned offices of the division.
District supervisors or school heads will also supervise the election process to ensure that it is conducted safely and orderly.
“We advise teachers to prepare themselves so that they will have ample energy during the actual Election Day,” Remo said.
Teachers have been advised that voters who are seniors, heavily pregnant, and persons with disabilities (PWD) will be given priority to line up and cast their votes so that they won’t be spending much time at their polling precincts, she added.
Antique has 387,998 registered voters and 794 clustered precincts.
