4 kidnappers killed in shootout as cops rescue Chinese trader

The Central Visayas Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) rescued on Monday night a 70-year-old Chinese businessman from the hands of his four captors who were also Chinese nationals, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said Tuesday.

He said the four suspects were killed during a shootout with the composite team of the Lapu-Lapu City intelligence police, the AKG, and the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Group.

Chan said the suspects, refusing to surrender, fired at the cops while inside their rented house inside a subdivision in Bankal village.

The suspects, who are yet to be identified by the police personnel investigating the crime scene, abducted their victim on May 25.

The police then launched the operation against the suspects.

The kidnap victim was unharmed but was physically weak when rescued and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Chan, who later arrived at the scene, revealed that the victim is a businessman.
