50 undocumented foreigners employed in Zambo City: DOLE

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) bared that there are at least 50 undocumented foreigners working in this southern port city.

We have monitored, foreign nationals who are working here in Zamboanga City without alien employment permit, DOLE-Region 9 Director Ofelia Domingo said on Friday.

Domingo said the discovery was made through the recent regular inspection conducted by the labor and foreign national labor inspectors.

She said they will also check if the foreign workers have been naturalized or have investments, adding they will let them explain on the status of their employment.

If they will not comply, they will be given order of compliance, and a mandatory conference will be made, the DOLE-9 official said.

Foreigners must first acquire alien employment permit and comply with the requirements before they can be employed in any firm. The requirements include passport, visa, and application form. A labor market test is required for those applying for technical positions.

Work legitimate here and pay the taxes due to the Philippine government, Domingo said of the foreign workers.
