A total of sixty two participants took part in the 6th Asia Amateur Chess Championship. The five-day championship involved 11 countries and was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Chess Association and sponsored by the Asia Chess Association and the World Chess Association.
The championship was officiated by Awang Hj Abdul Malik bin Hj Mohammad, the Director of Youth and Sports Department. Participants of the competition represents host country Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Sri Langka, Nepal and Uzbekistan. There will be 9 rounds competed in the championship which will end on the 12th of this month.
Among those participating in the competition are 2 Fidel Master from Brunei Darussalam and 2 Fidel Master each from Malaysia and Thailand. Also participating are the nation’s two young representatives, Kamarul Ariffin Hj Kipli and Md Shahrul Nazrul Muhammad.
