MANILA Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Jr. on Monday gave assurance that the proposed PHP3.757-trillion national budget for 2019 would remain "intact".
In a press conference, Andaya said the lower chamber under the leadership of Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has no intention to reduce the amount of the national budget as presented.
"There's no slash to be talked about. At this point in time the president's budget, in terms of aggregate amount, is intact," Andaya said.
"Marami kasing insinuations na babawasan daw ang budget, na kukulangan daw ang serbisyo ng gobyerno. Wala pong balak ang atingSpeaker na bawasan ang ating budget (There are a lot of insinuations that the budget would be slashed, that the services of the government would be reduced. The Speaker has no intention of reducing the budget)," Andaya added.
Andaya said the House would ensure that the budget is aligned with the policies and priorities of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The plenary debates on the national budget were supposed to start on Monday, 10 a.m. However, session was adjourned at 4:44 p.m. without the measure being sponsored on the floor.
Andaya said the deliberations would likely start on Tuesday. (PNA)
