MANILA, Philippines — The new Batang Gilasgot off to a rousing start with a 106-69 demolition of Malaysia Wednesday night to open their campaign in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Under-16 Championship at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Highly-touted SJ Belangelquarterbacked the team with precision finishing with 10 points, 10 assists and six boards in an all-around showing while Jonas Tibayan also worked his way inside to lead the way with 22 points and 11 boards while Gomez de Liano flirted with a double-double (20 points, nine rebounds).
Gian Mamuyac also hit 17 points and grabbed eight boards for Batang Gilas, who broke away from a tight start and established control, 56-36, at the half.
Batang Gilasgot off from where they left, opening the third canto with a 9-0 blitz that killed any hopes of Malaysian comeback. They will be looking to continue their hot start when they face Thailand 3pm on Friday which will be aired live on AKSYON TV.
