BOC eyes contributing up to P1 trillion to gov’t revenues this year

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is looking to contribute up to PHP1 trillion to government coffers this year. In a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing on Monday, BOC spokesperson Vincent Maronilla said these possible additional revenues will come from taxes to be collected until the end of this year. 'For this year, we are aiming to contribute, hopefully, about PHP900 million to about PHP1 trillion, if possible from our revenue surplus. And this will fund a lot of programs of the government. Our collection is very important to the finances of the government,' he said. Maronilla said that aside from their collections, the government is also relying on the revenues of the Bureau of Internal Revenue and other revenue collection agencies. To date, Maronilla reported that they have seized some PHP40 billion worth of smuggled items. 'This is the highest value and largest number of smuggled goods that the Bureau of Customs has apprehended in its history. This was done by our leadership, Commissioner Rubio and our Deputy Commissioners for Intelligence, Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy and Deputy Commissioner Teddy Raval to a concerted effort of combining good intelligence with efficient enforcement work,' he added.
