Catanduanes: The provincial government of Catanduanes extended its gratitude to the national government for its ongoing support to families severely affected by Super Typhoon Uwan in the region. Governor Patrick Azanza announced on social media that over 80 percent of the houses that were completely destroyed have received galvanized iron sheets following a visit to the municipality of Bato.
According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Azanza committed to continuing his efforts to secure assistance until all 4,665 houses that were completely damaged receive the necessary iron sheets. He mentioned that if additional supplies are obtained, they will be distributed to houses that suffered partial damage as well. As of his report, 3,818 completely damaged houses have been supplied with 22,008 G.I. sheets out of the 4,665 required.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is set to provide an additional 10,000 pieces of iron sheets. Azanza highlighted that the OCD responded to his request for 21,000 G.I. sheets shortly after Super Typhoon Uwan struck. The incoming supplies will prioritize houses in Virac and San Andres that were totally damaged, ensuring full distribution across all affected areas on the island.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is actively distributing cash assistance in the province. Azanza expressed his gratitude towards the OCD, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), and DSWD for their consistent support. He also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Secretary Jonvic Remulla, former OCD Chief Ariel Nepomuceno, OCD Undersecretary Harold Cabreros, and OCD Regional Director 5 Claudio Yucot for their contributions to the recovery efforts in Catanduanes.
Additionally, 3,882 families from the municipalities of Viga and Virac are receiving cash aid. In Viga, 1,572 families benefitted, while 2,310 families in Virac were assisted.
