Cagayan de oro: The Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) is advocating for the establishment of a PHP5-million water treatment plant as part of its comprehensive modernization strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s bulk water supply and the overall distribution system.
According to Philippines News Agency, COWD general manager Edna Najeal highlighted that the proposed water treatment plant is a key component of the 2025-2035 Development Program. This program is designed to improve the management and quality of water resources in the city. Najeal explained that the facility would treat surface water sourced from Bobonawan River in Baungon, Bukidnon, and the Cagayan River. In conjunction with this, COWD is also focusing on a substantial PHP12-billion repiping project intended to replace the aging pipeline infrastructure throughout the city.
COWD officials addressed the financial hurdles related to these projects, acknowledging the need for external funding assistance. They have appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways to consider allocating resources for the repair of pipelines and pipe bridges that have been compromised due to ongoing road and bridge construction projects.
