The Comission on Elections said that they are on track and will be up-to-the task of conducting the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October.
"Right now, the law says we must have an election on October 31. As long as there is no law that postpones it, we don't have a choice but to implement the law." Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista previously stated in an interview.
During the Senate committee hearing on the proposed postponement of the polls, the Comelec Chairman said that they are neutral on the issue but also appealed to postpone the polls only until 2017 so as not to coincide with their preparations for the 2019 mid-term elections.
"Elections should be spaced from each other." Bautista added.
Chairman Bautista said they are hoping that before September 1, Congress will already have a decision whether to postpone the polls or not.
