MANILA-- National security officials on Tuesday met with some senators to brief them on the current situation in Marawi City and the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
A photo from the Office of Senate Pres. Aquilino Pimentel III showed that among the officials present in the meeting were Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Catalino Cuy and Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa.
Meanwhile, senators who were briefed were Pimentel, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, Senators Joseph Victor Ejercito, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Gringo Honasan.
The meeting is ongoing. Details on the meeting have not yet been released.
Senators earlier requested for a briefing before Pres. Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of martial law in Mindanao lapses on July 23.
Last May 29, a week after the President's declaration of martial law in Mindanao, security officials and senators met in a closed-door meeting.
