Dagupan enforces ‘no segregation, no collection’ policy

DAGUPAN CITY -- The city has implemented the no segregation, no collection waste management policy in a bid to reduce dumping of wastes in its controlled dumpsite in Bonuan Tondaligan.

Waste Management Division (WMD) sanitation inspector Bernard Cabison said garbage collection schedule has been drafted and unsegregated wastes will not be collected.

Kailangan nating i-segregate ang basura natin pero hindi sapat yung nabubulok at di-nabubulok lang (We should segregate our garbage but it's not enough to segregate biodegradable from non-biodegradable, he said in an interview Wednesday.

Based on City Ordinance 1929-2009, commonly known as the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management in Dagupan City, solid wastes shall be segregated into three categories -- recyclable wastes which consist of plastics, bottles, and cartons; special wastes such as paint, batteries, home appliances, and hospital wastes; and residual wastes such sanitary napkins and disposable diapers.

With the policy in effect, the WMD projects smaller volumes of waste to be thrown in the dumpsite.

Meanwhile, the public is urged to compost as biodegradable wastes will not be collected.
