Davao city: The Davao del Norte Hospital in Kapalong Zone was energized Monday, marking the first critical institution connected under Davao Light and Power Co.'s (DLPC) expanded franchise area. DLPC built a 12-kilometer distribution line from Barangay Pag-asa to the municipal hall to serve the hospital. The expansion is authorized under Republic Act No. 12144, with a provisional Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the Energy Regulatory Commission.
According to Philippines News Agency, DLPC president and chief operations officer Enriczar Tia stated that the energization demonstrates the company's commitment to promptly bringing reliable service to critical institutions like the hospital, ensuring essential public services are supported without delay. Tia emphasized the importance of stable electricity for life-saving equipment and patient care, reinforcing the hospital's capacity to serve Kapalong and neighboring communities.
In addition to the hospital, more than 40 households have also been energized, with preparations underway to connect more in the coming months. Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib hailed the development as a victory for residents who previously endured high rates and frequent brownouts under the former cooperative. Jubahib underscored that stable power supports the Zero Balance Billing program by ensuring uninterrupted hospital operations and protecting sensitive medical equipment.
DLPC's expansion enables it to serve areas that were previously under the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative in parts of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.
