Dengue cases in Central Luzon down by 64%

The number of dengue cases in Central Luzon for the first four months of the year is 64 percent lower compared to the same period in 2021.

Based on the report of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, there are 3,360 dengue cases from January 1 to May 7 as against 5,251 recorded in the same period last year.

Corazon Flores, regional director of the Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD), said on Wednesday the decline in dengue cases can be attributed to the proactive efforts of the local government units in preventing and managing dengue-related incidents.

Flores, however, urged the public to remain vigilant against dengue.

She cited the need to heighten the 4S strategy in every community — Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; Self-protection measures including the use of mosquito repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants; Seek early consultation; and Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where an increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.

“Raising awareness, maintaining cleanliness, and activating our barangay officials to implement 4S strategy in every community in order to fight dengue,” Flores said in a statement.
