DOH picks Zambo City as ‘PinasLakas’ launch site

The Department of Health (DOH) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has chosen this city as the region’s launch site for Tuesday’s PinasLakas, a national vaccination drive to ramp up coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) booster shots for the eligible population.

Mayor John Dalipe on Monday expressed his full support for the new campaign, stressing “that booster doses will provide an additional layer of protection against Covid-19”.

Dalipe, together with DOH-9 officials, will lead the launch program at the Atrium of the KCC Mall de Zamboanga at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The campaign aims to administer vaccine booster doses against Covid-19 to at least 50 percent of eligible populations in the country.

It also aims to increase the vaccination rate among senior citizens in the first 100 days of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that 161,976 of the 677,153 fully vaccinated individuals here have received their first vaccine booster, while 5,144 immunocompromised and those belonging to A1 and A2 priority groups have received their second booster shot.

The A1 priority group comprises workers in front-line health services while the A2 are the senior citizens.

Since the start of the vaccination rollout here in March 2020, the CHO has administered a total of 1,531,803 doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Of the total doses, 96 percent or 687,530 individuals out of the targeted 716,960 population have received the first dose while 94 percent or 677,153 individuals have been administered second jabs and are considered fully vaccinated
