DOJ chief to meet Remulla for transition June 9

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday said he will be meeting with the team of Deputy Speaker Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla next week for the orderly transfer of the agency to the Marcos administration.

“(T)ogether with our senior officials, I will give Cong. Remulla and his team a briefing on DOJ operations, programs, and projects on Thursday, June 9. We shall ensure a smooth and orderly transition at the DOJ,” Guevarra told reporters in a Viber message.

Remulla has been designated by President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as secretary of the DOJ.

Guevarra said among the suggestions to the incoming justice secretary included maintaining the “excellent” record in anti-human trafficking, strengthening the campaign against cybercrimes, and pursuing the 3-year joint program with the UN on human rights promotion and protection.

Guevarra will also endorse to Remulla the development of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation to unclog court dockets.

They will suggest the transfer of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City and to professionalize the Bureau of Corrections as well as regionalize prison facilities and complete the digitization of all prison records known as carpetas.

Gueverra said Remulla may opt to pursue the immigration modernization bill and strengthen relations with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.
