E. Visayas LGUs urged to adopt door-to-door vax drive

The Department of Health (DOH) regional office urged local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas to adopt the door-to-door strategy in the vaccination against Covid-19.

Citing experiences of some local governments, DOH Regional Director Exuperia Sabalberino said on Tuesday the door-to-door scheme is effective in ensuring high vaccination coverage.

“The strategy yielded better results than the conventional tactics employed. With this, we aim to improve the coverage of the vaccination campaign, which tends to increase the resiliency of the community,” Sabalberino said in a press briefing.

The DOH has no available data on how many cities and towns have adopted the house-to-house vaccination drive.

As of April 25, at least 2,641,338 individuals or 67.3 percent of the 3,892,126 target population in Eastern Visayas have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Some 265,415 individuals have received their booster shots.

“The public is reminded that an intensified vaccination roll-out against Covid-19 is still being conducted all over the region. Vaccines are still our best defense against the virus and its variants. Get vaccinated and boosted for a strengthened community protection,” Sabalberino added.

Since the pandemic broke out, the region has recorded 62,104 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 61,424 recoveries, and 666 deaths. This brings the total active cases to 14 or 0.02 percent of the total, according to DOH.

From April 18 to 24, the region recorded 14 new cases out of the 1,880 samples tested in four laboratories of the region or a positivity rate of 0.74 percent.

There are no severe and critical cases admitted to hospitals due to Covid-19.
