EDSA Phase 1 Rehabilitation to Be Completed in July, Says DPWH

Manila: The Phase 1 of the EDSA rehabilitation project is anticipated to be completed by July, as announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, speaking at a press conference, indicated that the project is approaching 50 percent completion. The department is aiming to finish the project within five months. "We are currently close to 50 percent of Phase 1. So we want to complete this all by July 2026 with the sidewalks," Dizon stated. The progress of the EDSA rehabilitation is reportedly moving at a satisfactory pace.

Dizon further mentioned that improvements on the exclusive EDSA busway have been finalized, but the rehabilitation works on sidewalks are scheduled to continue until July. Preparations for Phase 2 of the EDSA rehabilitation, which will extend from Orense in Makati City to Cubao in Quezon City, are currently in the final stages.

The initial phase of rehabilitation on the major thoroughfare, spanning from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense, commenced on December 24, 2025. The scope of work includes asphalt overlay and concrete reblocking. The ongoing works are being executed daily from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

During Holy Week, Dizon revealed that the agency plans to conduct round-the-clock rehabilitation schedules, pending approval from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. He emphasized the need for understanding and concern among district engineers and regional directors regarding the impact of the project on the public. Dizon expressed the necessity for a change in mindset within the DPWH, highlighting the importance of completing projects to their entirety for public use.
