EDSA weekend road repairs to continue until November

MANILA The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday announced that more road repairs would be conducted along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) every weekend until November this year.

The private contractor of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be conducting road works along the 170 meter stretch of EDSA from Eugenio Lopez Drive to Scout Borromeo in Quezon City from April 6 to 8.

At 11 p.m. on Friday, one section on the southbound lane of EDSA from Eugenio Lopez Drive to Scout Boromeo in Quezon City will be closed to traffic. The affected lane would be passable on Monday 5 a.m., MMDA Acting General Manager Jojo Garcia said in a press briefing.

The road repairs will continue on parts of EDSA until Pinatubo Street in Cubao in the succeeding weekends until November 2 to 4.

The road works, which cover the 1.6 kilometers of EDSA, are part of the DPWH's maintenance project to improve its badly damaged pavement.

Road damage may get worse if we will delay the repair, Garcia said.

He also asked contractors to observe guidelines in parking their equipment and the right procedure in pouring concrete to minimize obstructions along EDSA.

Chairman Danilo Lim gave strict orders to follow the road repairs schedule and for the contractors not to obstruct traffic with their equipment and vehicles, he added.

The DPWH has started road reblocking on EDSA since last month, affecting the stretch of Aurora Boulevard to P. Tuazon on the southbound side and Nepa Q-Mart to Kamuning area on the northbound side.

The ongoing reblocking activities are being done one lane per every segment during weekends.

Motorists are advised to avoid EDSA and use the Mabuhay Lanes and other alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic.

At least 300,000 vehicles pass daily through EDSA, according to the MMDA.
