Experience UK via GREAT campaign (Philippines News Agency)

The United Kingdom will start its seven-month “Great” campaign which provides Filipinos with experiences of being at UK even without travelling there.

If you can’t come to Britain right now, let us come to you, noted British Ambassador Asif Ahmad, adding that there’s more of Britain that they want to share with the Filipinos, especially in terms of creativity, innovation and heritage.

Fashion, food, music, sports, education are among the highlights of the GREAT campaign’s third season. British Embassy Manila, together with its partners, ensures that Filipinos will get a piece of Britain as they share the best of British business and culture.

Ahmad said they had seen a surge of interest in British cars, fashion brands, food and beverage in the Philippines, adding that more Filipinos were visiting the UK not just for business, but to study or go on a holiday.

The GREAT campaign will kick off with ‘Sports is GREAT: Rugby World Cup’ event on Sept. 19 at the NOMADS Sports Club, Paranaque. It will be a whole-day event, where visitors could cheer for the Philippine Volcanoes as well as other teams representing England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, United States and Wales while sampling UK’s food and drink.

As early as today, tickets are available for the Bond-themed UK-Philippine Friendship Day on Oct. 20 at the Makati Shangrila. Here, guests would enjoy Aston Martin and Jaguar cars plus Macallan whisky and other drinks in the open bar.

November might be the perfect time to do the Christmas shopping as Filipinos get a chance to win a trip to the UK through the GREAT British Shopping Contest. Fashionistas and shopaholics can choose from over 30 participating British brands in outlets in Metro Manila and selected provinces.

For those waiting for the latest James Bond movie, Spectre, British Embassy Manila will join the launch/screening. A major part of the campaign also aims to promote Spectre.

Welcome 2016 by celebrating William Shakespeare’s 400th year. British Embassy Manila will launch the global Shakespeare Lives program on Jan. 5. There will also be Shakespeare Lives events on February and March.

A three-day bash for the Great British Festival is scheduled on Feb. 26-28 at the Bonifacio High Street in Taguig.

Meanwhile, Ahmad also invites every Filipino to check out their trade missions, competitions, roadshows and a surprise or two during the GREAT campaign. Details will be revealed in the British Embassy Manila’s social media accounts.
