Fire victims get cash aid from Manila LGU

A total of 157 families affected by a fire in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Sunday received financial assistance on Monday.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso took time out from his presidential campaign to give PHP10,000 per family on New Antipolo Street, accompanied by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan.

“Bawat isa sa inyo, nangungupahan, may-ari ng bahay, basta lahat ng pamilyang nasunugan, lahat kayo tatanggap ng tig-sasampung libong piso (Each one of you, renter, house owner, all families who have been victims of this fire incident, you will receive PHP10,000),” Domagoso told the victims.

Domagoso advised them to prioritize purchase of construction materials, like roofing and plywood, so they can rebuild their houses as soon as possible.

The six-hour fire gutted an old three-story residential building made of light materials.

An initial report from the Manila Fire Department showed the fire started at about 5 p.m. on the second floor.

Four were injured, one died, and damage was estimated at PHP100,000.

“Ako gusto ko makabalik kayo kaagad. Aso nga naghahanap ng masisilungan kapag umuulan. May awa ang Diyos, andito lang kami. Basta pipilitin naming kayo ay maitawid sa krisis na ito. Makakaraos din tayo (I want you to get back on your feet immediately. Even dogs try look for shelter when it’s raining. Have faith in God, we are here, and we will try to help you get through this crisis. We will survive this),” Domagoso told the victims.
