MANILA-- The House of Representatives failed to release the summary of the statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) of its members last May as the newly-created review committee still has not come up with rules on handling SALN requests.
In a press conference, Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, chair of the committee on SALN review, said his panel will still draft and adopt rules on dealing with SALN requests.
Umali said the committee wanted to ensure that the new House rules that they will come up with are consistent and aligned with the Supreme Court rules.
Umali said the point of contention lies with the possibility of a plague of requests for individual SALNs, which he admitted the House is still unprepared to deal with.
"Ang contentious are marami nang mga requests for SALN of individuals. And I do not know how to deal with it," Umali said.
The summaries of congressmen's SALNs are usually released in May following the deadline of SALN filing on April 30.
