K’TAN KPDN SEIZES 2,016 KG GRANULATED SUGAR AT PREMISES IN KOTA BHARU

KOTA BHARU, The Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized a total of 2,016 kilogrammes (kg) of granulated sugar believed to be stored by a trader at a premises, near Kok Lanas, here yesterday. Its director, Azman Ismail said the raid was carried out after receiving a complaint from the public involving the retailer involved storing the controlled item in excess of the permitted quantity. "The team conducted the raid at noon and found the retailer, who had a licence for the controlled item, but kept an amount of granulated sugar which exceeded the limit allowed in the licence at the premises," he said in a statement today. Elaborating further, Azman said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the trader involved could be fined a maximum of RM1 million or be jailed not more than three years, or both, if found guilty of the keeping controlled item. Meanwhile, in another development, Azman said his team also confiscated about 425 litres of petrol and a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle near Kampung Telaga Lanas, Pengkalan Kubor in Tumpat yesterday. He said the raid was conducted at 11.45 pm through an integrated operation codenamed 'Op Bersepadu Pencegahan Ketirisan Barang Kawalan', together with the Marine Police Force of Zone Three, Pengkalan Kubor. "Information from the intelligence team found that a house was used as a temporary transit stop for the controlled goods," he said, adding that they also found 11 jerrycans filled with petrol. "We found that the suspect made the purchases of petrol by filling petrol into the modified vehicle petrol tank repeatedly at several petrol stations around Tumpat."
