Lawmakers are pushing for a 100 percent discount on landing and parking fees to international airlines that call on the Laguindingan Airport here.
Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro and Party List Rep. Maximo Rodriguez, of Abante Mindanao, passed House Resolution No. 2159, urging the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to grant the incentives to attract more flights to and from Misamis Oriental.
The resolution cited the globally competitive arena for tourists, investors, and stakeholders in the business industry, which the province of Misamis Oriental could offer having selected as the Second Most Competitive Provinces of 2015.
One way to attract more foreign airlines to Laguindingan is to offer incentives, which different airports in the world had welcomed, including the Changi Airport in Singapore, the Hong Kong International Airport, Incheon International Airport in South Korea, and airports in Atlanta and Northwest Florida in the United States, the resolution said.
The resolution urged the CAAP to give incentives of up to 100 percent discount on landing, parking fees for new international routes to and from Cagayan De Oro City in Misamis Oriental to attract more flight routes.
On Nov. 2014, the navigational equipment for night operations were installed at the Laguindingan Airport to accommodate night flights, which increased the number of tourists and businessmen entering not only Cagayan de Oro City but also Northern Mindanao;
The Laguindingan Airport opened in 2012, designed to bring in more air traffic, passengers and more cargo as the main airport of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in northern Mindanao, and a counterpart of the Davao International Airport in Southern Mindanao. (PNA)RMA/CD
