Due to limited access to sanitation alcohol while the enhanced community quarantine is imposed, village officials in Barangay 5 San Pedro here has adopted a local formula which its frontliners can use as an alternative disinfectant amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) scare.

Village treasurer Karen Lucas said Tuesday Barangay Health Emergency Response Team members, led by Punong Barangay Alfredo Peralta II, are at risk while doing their job to protect the community from Covid-19 yet, they have limited access to protect themselves.

They adopted a low-cost formula as recommended by health experts to make use of household bleach mixed with water as a sanitizing agent alternative.

After disinfecting their own homes and body, members of the team moved from house to house with their mouth and nose covered with face masks to inform the households about the need to follow the provisions of the quarantine.

They also carry with them thermometers to check on the body temperatures of persons under monitoring in their barangays, as well as distribute informative materials translated in the vernacular.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a Luzon-wide quarantine to address the threat of Covid-19.

“Let us be united and pray for the safety of our barangay. Let us do our part and stay home if we have no important errand outside,” Lucas said.
