Manila: The low-pressure area off Northern Luzon has developed into Tropical Depression Lannie, the weather bureau said Saturday. As of 5:15 a.m., the center of Lannie was estimated at 315 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It was moving westward at 15 kph.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Lannie will move generally northwestward until Monday before shifting west-northwestward through the rest of the forecast period. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday morning or afternoon. PAGASA also noted that Lannie is likely to intensify into a tropical storm by Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
The regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Lannie. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon will face similar
weather conditions as a result of the southwest monsoon being enhanced by Lannie. The rest of the country will encounter isolated rains or thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.
The western section of Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters. In contrast, the rest of the archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
