Naga city: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned the driver and operator of a multicab jeepney that was struck head-on by a sedan in Naga City, Cebu.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza stated that show cause orders were issued to both the driver and operator to 'shed light on what really happened, especially if there was a lapse on the part of the passenger jeepney.' Mendoza emphasized the need to uncover every detail of the incident to determine accountability and develop road safety policies.
Both the operator and driver have been instructed to provide a written explanation regarding their potential liability for the incident and are required to appear at a hearing with the LTFRB. Additionally, Mendoza directed the LTFRB-Region 7 (Central Visayas) to assist the victims, particularly with insurance payment facilitation.
A viral video on social media, captured by CCTV, showed a red jeepney stopping to pick up passengers when a speeding red sedan crashed into it. The collision resulted in injuries to at least 15 people, including five pedestrians. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, and those in critical condition were moved to larger medical facilities for specialized care.
Naga City Police Station chief Col. Dexter Calacar mentioned that the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the sedan driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and property damage.
