Manila Cathedral to hold 3 Masses for Sto. Niño feast

MANILA: The Manila Cathedral announced on Saturday that it will join the celebration of the Feast of Sto. Niño with three Masses on Sunday.

In a social media post, the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Intramuros, Manila, said two Masses will be celebrated in the morning and one in the afternoon in honor of the Holy Child Jesus.

Aside from Cebu, where the biggest Feast of Sto. Niño is traditionally held, the feast of the Child Jesus is also held in many parts of the country, including Tondo and Pandacan in Manila.

“Tomorrow, January 15, is the Feast of the Sto. Niño, a liturgical feast in the Philippines. Our Masses at the Cathedral will be at 8 am, 10 am and 6pm,” it said.

The Cathedral urged the devotees to offer prayers and candles to the Sto. Niño de Tondo at the Basilica.

“The image of the Sto. Niño de Tondo, a gift from the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Niño in Tondo, is now enshrined at the Cathedral where you can offer your prayers and votive candles,” it said.

On the eve of the celebration, devotees of Sto. Niño in Cebu have gathered to join the solemn foot procession and the fluvial parade.

A fluvial procession was also held In Pagadian City also in honor of its patron saint, Sto. Niño, which was officially named Pasasalamat Festival, and coincides with Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival.

In Tondo, Manila, the traditional "lakbayaw",a procession accompanied by dance and music during the Feast of Sto. Niño de Tondo, was replaced by a motorcade that began at 7 a.m. Saturday. (
