The Manila Police District (MPD) will implement starting on Friday an extensive checkpoint in preparation for the "Traslacion" during the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Monday (Jan. 9).
MPD Director Chief Supt. Joel Coronel on Thursday said the extensive checkpoint is aimed at ensuring the security on the day of the "Traslacion", which is expected to be participated in by up to 15 million devotees.
The activities for the "Traslacion" are already lined up for Friday.
The hourly mass at the Quiapo Church will start on Friday, while the procession of the replica of the Black Nazarene will be held on Saturday, and the "kissing" of the replica will be done at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park, Manila on Sunday.
Likewise, the "paneling" will be done in the route to be traversed by the procession on Friday.
Coronel said the intensified anti-criminality campaign started today wherein those drinking in public places will be arrested in compliance with the city ordinance against such drinking in public places.
He added that they are leaving it to the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to make the recommendation on the "cellphone signal jamming" as part of the intensification of security measures for the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Monday.
