MANILA -- As Tropical Storm Jolina rages over northern Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council placed its Operations Center in Quezon City on red alert Friday evening.
This is to ensure that personnel from member agencies, especially the DOST-PAGASA, the departments of the interior, social welfare and health, the military, police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard, could render 24-hour duty and coordination in any eventuality.
The respective Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and the Cordilleras were likewise placed on red alert.
NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad, meanwhile advised the public to stay alert and continue monitoring weather updates and advisories on television, radio and social media, and heed the advice of their local officials.
He urged everyone to stay at home and postpone any leisure and tourist activity, especially in northern Luzon until the storm has passed.
