Nigerian ‘fraudster’ dead after resisting arrest in Cavite

MANILA A Nigerian national suspected of being behind an online scam targeting Filipinos was shot and died shortly after resisting arrest in Cavite, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Friday.

In a statement, the NBI said Okoroike Harrison Chibuike was declared dead on arrival when he was brought to a hospital, shortly after he was shot while attempting to resist NBI personnel who arrested him at St. Michael Subdivision, Barangay Talaba 7 in Bacoor City on Tuesday.

His Filipino companion, Eduard Parcedes Godeloson, who initially introduced himself as a member of the Philippine Army, tried to escape on a motorcycle but was also later arrested.

The NBI said the duo engaged in various online scams, employing various resources in their illegal operation, targeting the financial proceeds and banking information of Filipinos.

Among the items seized were blank cards being sold by Godeloson to a group of Nigerian individuals for their access device fraud activities.

Godeloson was presented for inquest proceeding before the prosecutor's office for direct assault, usurpation of authority, obstruction of justice and violation of Republic Act (RA) 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, and RA 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998. (PNA)
