No Lenten processions in Antipolo Diocese

The Diocese of Antipolo will not hold any procession during the observance of Lent and the Holy Week this year, contrary to what was announced on February 24.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Antipolo Bishop Francisco de Leon clarified in a letter addressed to priests in his diocese as to why processions, including motorcades, would still be prohibited.

“If the crowd is not controlled, it may elevate the Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases. We are still in a pandemic crisis, and we must avoid a resurgence of cases,” de Leon said as one of the two primary reasons for retracting his previous statement. “We must (also) take into account the recent increase in gasoline prices.”

Before the pandemic, Roman Catholics hold processions during Holy Week.

For 2022, the Holy Week has been set from April 10 to 16.
