‘No Waste Segregation, No Collection’ Policy Enforced in Antique’s Capital Town

Antique: Antique's capital town will strictly implement the 'No waste segregation, No collection' policy this year. 'We have to strictly enforce waste segregation at source or right in the homes or establishments," San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Paul Joseph Untaran said in an interview on Monday.

According to Philippine News Agency, Untaran will call for a meeting with barangay captains on Jan. 23 to discuss the solid waste management (SWM) problem, convinced that they could do a lot in helping reduce wastes being generated by households and establishments in their respective jurisdictions. He added they will purchase a backhoe and two dump trucks for use in waste collection and sanitary landfill, in addition to their five existing units.

Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) designate, Jollyroy Amaran, said their town generates around 16 tons of waste per day, which doubled during the holidays. 'Mayor Untaran intends to have a daily collection per barangay starting this year. It could enable us to identify which barangay is practicing waste segregation and which one is not,' Amaran said. Amaran emphasized that they will not collect waste from barangays that are not implementing the segregation.
