Over 100 families evacuate due to floods, landslides in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY: Around 129 families or 423 people were evacuated in the provinces of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte and Albay due to the heavy rains brought by the northeast monsoon and shear line on Monday.

Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-5 (Bicol) spokesperson, said that as of 3 p.m. Monday, Camarines Sur had the most number of evacuees with 125 families (408 persons), Camarines Norte with two families (nine persons) and Albay with two families (six persons).

At least 62 flooding incidents were reported in 14 local government units (LGUs) in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Naga City.

“Three landslide incidents were reported in the provinces of Camarines Norte and Albay due to the heavy rains spawned by the weather disturbance,” Naz said.

He said seven national roads in the municipalities of Sipocot, Lagonoy, Goa, Tigaon and Garchitorena were reported impassable due to flooding.

Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Naga City also suspended classes at all levels.

“We are continuously monitoring and coordinating with the disaster risk reduction management offices of the affected provinces,” Naz said.

OCD-Bicol advised LGUs with high susceptibility to flood and landslide to monitor updates and implement countermeasures.
