Over 1,800 Ilocos Region cops promoted

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan: At least 1,897 police officers have been promoted in the Ilocos Region and took oath on Tuesday at the Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO-1) in San Fernando City, La Union.

In his message to the newly-promoted cops, PRO-1 director, Brig. Gen. John Chua, who administered their oath, reminded that their promotion does not mean more authority, but implies more responsibilities and contributions to the Philippine National Police (PNP) organization.

“Habang tumataas ang ating ranggo, kaakibat nito ang pagtaas din ng ating tungkulin. Dahil dito, dapat tayong maging mas maingat sa ating mga kilos, salita at mas masigasig sa pagtupad ng ating tungkulin. Tayong mga nakakatanda sa serbisyo ay magsilbi sanang gabay sa ating mga kapwa pulis. In short, we should lead by a good example (As our ranks go higher, alongside is a bigger responsibility for us. Because of this, we should be careful with our actions, words and persevere more in complying with our duties. We, who have been longer in the service, should be the guide of our fellow policemen),” he said.

Chua said the promoted personnel are comprised of 206 Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) and 1,691 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs) assigned in the regional headquarters, police provincial offices and city and municipal police units, including personnel assigned with mobile forces.

“Among the PCOs, nine were promoted to police major, 182 to police captain and 15 to police lieutenant. For PNCOs, eight were promoted as police executive master sergeant, 70 to police chief master sergeant, 129 to police senior master sergeant, 239 to police master sergeant, 637 to police staff sergeant and 608 to police corporal,” he added.

Chua said the promotion of personnel is one of the organization’s priorities as its way of recognizing the sacrifices, accomplishments and merit the personnel has displayed in the police service in the fight against criminality, lawlessness and illegal drugs.

The mass oathtaking for the police personnel’s promotion was held a day after the submission of courtesy resignations of the third-level officials in Ilocos Region in adherence to the call of Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. last week.
