The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources personnel in the Caraga Region (DENR-13) nabbed two persons for transporting illegally-sawn lumber at a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion in Bacuag, Surigao del Norte on Monday.
Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) director, Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. identified the suspects as Mark Lester Aliocod, 45; and Arnold Boncales, 32; both rof Barangay Maloco, Manalo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Aliocod and Boncales were caught transporting 10,860 board feet of illegally cut lumber with a total market value of PHP511,518.
“The red and white Lawaan lumbers were cut in different sizes and transported without pertinent documents,” Esquivel said.
Police and DENR investigations are ongoing to identify the real owner of the seized logs while the suspects were detained at the Bacuag Municipal Police Station.
Authorities are also preparing the necessary documents for the filling of a case for violation of Presidential Decree 705 otherwise known as the "Forestry Code of the Philippines."
The confiscated forest products together with the hauler truck used were already turned over to the DENR.
“The series of accomplishments on anti-illegal logging operations are part of our intensified efforts to save and protect our forests,” Esquivel said.
He also cited the support of the local communities and the residents for making the anti-illegal logging operations of the PNP successful.
