MANILA-- The main office of the Philippine News Agency will undergo dramatic renovation this year, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar announced on Monday.
Andanar made the announcement during the launch of the new PNA website and mobile app at Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.
Andanar cited the need to improve of the state-run newswire, agency, noting that it has been left behind in terms of equipment and technical facilities in contrast to its counterpart agencies abroad.
"The neglect of the PNA is a thing of the past. Now, I can say, in this administration, PNA will be given the much needed attention and support to overhaul and modernize its operations starting with the launch of its new website interface, and the design and the renovation of its main office in Quezon City," he said.
Andanar said the PNA office will be reconstructed into a state-of-the-art facility that houses a news TV studio as well as a high-tech teledub audio booth.
The newly-overhauled PNA office is expected to be finished by November, the official said.
Andanar vowed to rejuvenate PNA by creating its own newscast through a TV sub-channel and digital online.
"PTV under its modernization plan to digitalize the broadcast will have four subchannels and one of the sub-channels will be dedicated to the Philippine News Agency," he said.
"Under this administration, PNA will also have its own audio recordings, audio news, much like the other modern news agencies around the world," he added.
According to Andanar, the facilities are expected to boost PNA's delivery of relevant news and information on the various programs and advocacies of the government to Filipinos here and abroad.
The dream of a total makeover of the country's official news agency is now beginning to turn into reality. Indeed, change has come to the Philippine News Agency," he said.
