PCSO helps more indigents through community outreach program

Consistent with its mandate to provide charitable and social services to the poor and vulnerable sectors, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) continues to assist Filipinos through its community outreach program that provides help to depressed communities, especially in times of disaster. "Regular po kaming nag-iikot sa mga komunidad sa bansa upang kahit paano'y makatulong sa mga pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan (We regularly go to communities around the country so that we can help, in our own little way, in providing the needs of our countrymen)," PCSO chairman Junie Cua said in a statement on Tuesday. Cua said this is part of the Rear, Assist, Inspire, Support and Enhance (RAISE) Program under the agency's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. He added that through RAISE, the government, under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., manifests its care and support to Filipinos in need of assistance. The PCSO earlier distributed 1,000 food packs to indigent residents of Parañaque City as part of its CSR. Cua was joined by Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez, 2nd District Rep. Gus Tambunting, and other PCSO and local government officials during the activity that was held at the Parañaque Sports Complex last June 14. In 2022, the PCSO allotted almost PHP9 million for various beneficiaries under its CSR initiatives, which included food pack distribution to victims of fire, typhoon and earthquake; provision of hygiene kits to various schools; distribution of medical equipment to local government units; and distribution of mobility devices to the elderly, among others. 'Asahan po ninyo na patuloy nating isasagawa ang community outreach program para mas marami pang kababayan natin ang matulungan (Be assured that we will continue to conduct the community outreach program so that we can provide assistance to more of our countrymen)," Cua said. The PCSO's CSR initiatives are on top of its charity assistance programs -such as the Medical Assistance Program, Endowment Fund Program and Medicine Donation Program, among others- as well as various mandatory contributions that provide financial and medical aid to indigents and other financially-incapacitated individuals.
