MANILA-- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is the official agency to provide the "real numbers" of anti-illegal operations and arrested personalities in line with the Duterte administration's intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
PDEA Director General Isidro LapeAa, in a press conference on Friday, said updates on the joint law enforcement agencies involved in the anti-illegal drugs operations such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be consolidated before it will be released to the public.
"In the spirit of transparency and public interest, I earnestly hope that by providing these updated figures, we will have a better appreciation of the drug situation in the Philippines. I also hope that PDEA and our counterparts from law enforcement and other agencies will have more allies which will help save our country and our youth from the devastating effects of illegal drugs," the PDEA chief said.
PNP Director for Operations Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, for his part, underscored the importance of having just one agency to announce "consolidated reports by concerned government agencies involved in anti-illegal drugs.
He explained that each agency such as the PNP may have different data as that of the PDEA due to "time difference" at the time the data was released.
As such, he said having one agency to provide consolidated data from joint law enforcement agencies will give the public correct information on the government's anti-illegal drugs campaign.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa earlier assured the public that the PNP will continue the campaign against drugs, adding that they will utilize all available resources to finally eradicate crime and illegal drugs in the country.
He also urged the public to support and help the PNP's anti-illegal drugs drive.
