PDP-Laban extends assistance to victims of China landslide

MANILA-- Ruling political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Monday extended financial assistance for victims of a landslide in Sichuan Province, China.

In a press statement, PDP-Laban head and Senate president Aquilino Pimentel III said the donation was received by Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua in a ceremony at the Ambassador's Residence.

The PDP-Laban delegation was led by Party Vice Chair and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

The delegation included former Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos, Transco President and CEO Melvin Matibag, and the Chair of PDP Laban's Public Information Committee, Ron Munsayac.

Pimentel described the donation as an affirmation of the friendship between the Philippines and China.

In February, the PDP-Laban and the Communist Party of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing friendly ties between the two ruling parties.

Cusi, for his part, pointed out how China was there for the Philippines when it needed assistance for the displaced residents of Marawi City in Mindanao by donating some PHP15 million.

It is only proper that Filipinos also offer what we can to help during their time of need, Cusi said.

Late June 23, Xinmo village, Sichuan province was buried by a massive landslide that destroyed 40 homes in the village.
