MANILA -- The Philippines bags the girls title in the World Juniors Tennis Championship Asia/Oceania Zone Pre-Qualifying event in New Delhi, India on Sunday.
The team of Maria Carmencita Carlos, Alexandra Eala and Amanda Gabrielle Zoleta swept all their ties on the way to the final round where it scored a 3-0 victory over Jordan at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex.
Maria Carmencita Carlos, a grade 6 student at Keys School Manila, defeated Randa A-Qudsi, 6-3, 6-3; Alexandra Eala prevailed over Jana Al-Khatib, 6-0, 6-0 while Lucena City's Amanda Gabrielle Zoleta and Eala outplayed Haya Joudeh and Al-Qudsi, 6-4, 6-3.
In the battle for third place, Singapore downed Kyrgyzstan, 3-0.
All four teams will join Australia and New Zealand in the Final Qualifying slated March 20 to April 1 in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the boys division, earning berths to the Final Qualifying are Syria, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore.
The top two teams from each division will play in the World Group Finals which will take place in Prostejov, Czech Republic. (PNA)
