MANILA-- Filipino Davis Cupper Francis Casey Alcantara trounced Saida'lo Saidkarimov of Uzbekistan, 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the men's singles event in the Bahrain Futures at the Public Security Officers Club outdoor hard court in Manama.
The Cagayan de Oro City-born player will be up against his doubles partner, fifth seed Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe, who marched into the second round after posting a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over qualifier Mubarak Shannan Zayid of Qatar.
Alcantara and Lock also made it to the next round of the doubles division after surviving Slovakian tandem Tom Kocevar-Desman and Nik Razborsek, 7-6(4), 6-7(4), [11-9].
Alcantara and Lock will next face second seeds Anis Ghorbel of Tunisia and Jorge Montero of Chile, who won over German Joe Cooper and Czech Michal Konecny, 6-4, 7-5.
Meanwhile, top-ranked Tallonn Griekspoor of The Netherlands defeated compatriot Roy Sarut De Valk, 6-2, 6-4 to lead six other seeded players into the second round.
No. 2 Konecny outplayed Nik Razborsek of Slovakia, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4; No. 3 Sanjar Fayziev of Uzbekistan prevailed over Aria Harajchi of Switzerland, 6-2, 6-1; No. 4 Markus Eriksson of Sweden outclassed Qatari wild card Jabor Mohanned Ali Mutawa, 6-4, 6-1; No. 6 Viktor Durasovic of Norway beat German qualifier Alexander Braun, 6-2, 6-2; No. 7 Ghorbel clobbered German qualifier Jonathan Morr, 6-1, 6-1; and No. 8 Baptiste Crepatte of France downed American Cameron Silverman, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Other first-round winners in the singles division were qualifier Andrei Glvac of Slovakia over compatriot Ivan Kosec, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2; qualifier Younes El Ayanaqui of Morocco over Austrian Bernd Kossler, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5; Indian Shahbaaz Khan over wild card Abdul-Rahman Janahi of Bahrain, 6-0, 6-1; Yusuf Qaed of Bahrian over compatriot Kareem Abdulnabi, 4-6, 3-2 (retired); and Montero over Milois Sekulic of Sweden, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3.
