Silang: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has reaffirmed his commitment to modernizing the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) to better prepare future police officers for evolving law enforcement and peace and order challenges.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the 46th PNPA Grand Alumni Homecoming in Silang, Cavite, Nartatez emphasized the importance of equipping cadets with the necessary skills to adapt to real-world conditions upon graduation. He articulated the goal of ensuring that every cadet possesses world-class skills and knowledge, grounded in integrity and excellence in law enforcement, to serve the Filipino people effectively.
Nartatez highlighted that the PNP leadership is working closely with the PNPA to enhance both academic and training systems. He also reiterated the academy's zero-tolerance policy against hazing, underscoring the importance of immediate dismissal for any violators, whether cadets or officers.
Emphasizing the need for safe and effective training methods, Nartatez stated that training should develop character rather than inflict harm. The PNP chief expressed a shift towards science-based physical conditioning and psychological resilience, aiming to produce officers who are 'tough' due to competence rather than having endured abuse.
