THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said it is studying the possibility of including Isabela province in the list of Election Areas of Watch List Concern (EWAC) for the synchronized national and local elections in May. This, following the killing of two candidates by suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels. Vice Mayor Ronald Lucas of Jones town was snatched and then killed last Wednesday by suspected rebels allegedly belonging to "Camus Command" while campaigning in far flung villages known to be NPA lairs. The following day, Lucas' ally Barangay chairman Heinrich Apostol was shot dead and a fellow village chieftain was wounded after they were attacked by unidentified gunmen in their village. The Joint Security Coordinating Committee in the province, composed of representative from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), is making an assessment on the incidents for consideration.
