BAGUIO CITY-- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spearheaded the inauguration of the People's Television (PTV) Cordillera Hub building inside the Philippine Information Agency - Cordillera Regional Office (PIA-CAR) compound in Baguio City on Saturday.
The President said the station should catch the attention of the viewers when scanning the channels on their television sets.
PTV shall be the leading news and public information source nationwide, he said.
President Duterte said the template of PTV's programming will be that of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
He also urged the administrators of PTV - Cordillera to draft the guidelines which may be patterned after the BBC.
In expounding on the provisions of Freedom of Information (FOI), the President pointed out his promises why he is in full support to improve communication between the people and the government.
Duterte said he will stop graft and corruption even if it means the relief of his political appointees from their posts.
He added that this can be achieved if the people will report these unscrupulous acts of government officials through the 8888 program handled by Presidential Legal Counsel lawyer Salvador Panelo which airs on PTV.
He will also control the use of illegal drugs stating that the control or elimination should start from the manufacturing then the control of selling and buying.
He will stop criminality in all forms such as kidnapping and carnapping.
Duterte said he will continue with what he started in Davao City, to implement a three-day period for processing of documents in all government line agencies.
The President was joined by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, PTV General Manager Dino Apolonio, Baguio Representative Marquez Go, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the Baguio City councilors and Line Agency Regional Directors including PCOO Assistant Secretary Ana Marie Banaag and Department of Justice Assistant Secretary Chyt Daytec-Yangot.
PTV Cordillera will cater to the Cordillera Region, Northern Pangasinan, Northern Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
