REAP to hold convention on safer roads from July 19-21

MANILA-- The Road Engineering Association of the Philippines (REAP) will be holding a three-day meeting in Pasay City.

The national convention with the theme Innovative Technologies for Safer Roads will be held from from Wednesday to Friday at the Mariott Hotel Grand Ballroom, and a golf tournament at Villamor Golf Club, Villamor Airbase.

REAP National President and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Romeo Momo said they expect to gather around 1,500 members and guests from the public and private sector.

"With the DPWH as the key player in the attainment of the country's Golden Age of Infrastructure, the agency relies on the technical know-how of our skilled employees and partners in the road sector - especially REAP, in assuring that our major final outputs are state-of-the-art and guaranteed safe, he said in a statement.

The three-day event will involve meetings with the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) Philippine Chapter, and series of discussion and sharing on safety, innovative engineering solutions, and international standards on infrastructure facilities.

REAP has invited experts to give an overview of the Recent Earthquake-Proof Building Design in Japan, Tunneling, Geo Tube Containment Dike for Coastal Highway Land Reclamation and Flood Control Mitigation; Slope Protection; and Road Safety among others.

I expect this event to be a worthy engagement of mind mapping, skills-sharing, and capacity building among road engineers for the attainment of our shared mission to provide safer roads for our people, Momo added.

Meanwhile, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, who will grace the event as keynote speaker, is hoping that the organization will support the government's infrastructure projects.

I hope that the leadership of REAP will carry out the vision of the administration to Build, Build, Build more vital infrastructure that will serve as the back bone of the Duterte administration's socioeconomic agenda and bring forth the inclusive development that we all aspire for every Filipino, he said.
