Seven workers of a construction company were injured when the pick-up truck they were riding on crashed into a bridge on the national highway in Barangay Tapon Norte, San Jose, Negros Oriental before dawn on Wednesday.
A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) identified the victims as Eliezar Painagan Genzon, 33, of Barangay Sulodpan, Bacong; Clan Rante Menot, 31, of Gamao, Bayawan City; Arnold Tulabing Palomar, 21, of Lonoy, Bais City; Armelo Cay of Dumaguete City; Rene C. Gerona, 47, of Bayawan City; George Morte, 47, of Dauin; and Danilo Mananquil Samoren, 44, of Barangay San Roque, San Jose town, all in Negros Oriental.
Initial police investigation showed that the Toyota Hilux Pick-up truck driven by Genzon, was traveling south along the national highway at around 2:10 a.m. when it suddenly swerved and hit the concrete railing of the bridge and water supply pipe of the San Jose municipality.
The driver of the truck, owned by Lorito M. Tijing, had apparently fallen asleep, the police report said.
The vehicle hung on its side on the concrete railing, causing multiple injuries to the driver and passengers.
The victims, all employees of PhilSouth Builders, are now confined at separate private hospitals in this city.
