SAP Go ‘humbled’ by clamor for Senate run

MANILA Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go on Wednesday said he was deeply humbled by the encouragement given by President Rodrigo R. Duterte and other supporters calling for him to run for senator in the 2019 midterm elections.

Go made this remark after Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that the President will support Bong Go to the hilt.

Andanar, Cabinet officials and lawmakers led the launch of a movement dubbed as "Ready, Set, Go," aimed at persuading the President's closest aide to run for senator at Illustrado Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila.

All these started as a joke, but with the overwhelming support and encouragement of no less than Mayor Rody and his supporters, I cannot just set this aside, Go said in a statement sent to the media.

Go said that for the Chief Executive to say that he will support him to the hilt if he decides to run is something more than he could ask for".

For him to say that he also wants me to seek a higher post, to prove something to myself and that I could also grow, only shows how unselfish Mayor Rody is. I am deeply humbled by his inspiring words, Go said.

However, he insisted that it was still too early to think about his senatorial bid.

But like I said, it is still too early to talk about politics. Trabaho po muna ako para sa Pangulo at para sa bayan (For the meantime, I will continue to work for the President and for the people), Go said.

Go also reiterated that he has pledged to serve Duterte until kingdom come.
